Contributing

From Minehut Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

Minehut Wiki is a collaborative wiki resource that is open for anyone to edit. You don't need special permission beyond registering an account to edit most pages, and your contributions can grow the wiki and help other players.

Adding content
  • If you are unsure of what to do or how to create a page, search for a few articles on the same topic and see what they look like. You can always view the source code in a wiki and learn from what others have done.
  • An edit doesn't have to be massive; if you feel you don't want to create whole articles, then just fixing spelling errors and broken links is enough.
  • Register to edit and track your contributions.
  • Join the Minehut Discord (invite) and talk to others about the wiki in the dedicated #wiki channel.

Help Needed

If you are interested in contributing but not sure what to do, the following are some pages that the wiki needs help with.

Cosmetic Pages

Each of the 100+ cosmetics that Minehut currently has needs its own page. You can view the main page with the list of all cosmetics here. Look for a cosmetic that doesn't have its own page yet and create it by going to new page. The page name needs to follow the format of Cosmetics/Cosmetic_Name. Copy the content of an existing page such as Explorer's Hat and change all the information for the corresponding cosmetic. Then head back to the Cosmetics page and create a hyperlink to the page you just created.

Themes

The light theme on the wiki currently needs some help. It does not look great in certain sections so that is why it is currently recommended to use the dark theme on the wiki. If you have knowledge in CSS and would like to help improve the light theme, you are able to utilize the personal theme feature since only wiki admins are able to edit the Common.css page. Personal themes allow you to edit the CSS of the wiki just for you. To create a personal theme, head over to the common.css page on your user page. Such as https://minehut.wiki.gg/wiki/User:Example/common.css. Copy the main wiki CSS over from Common.css to it. Then edit it to whatever you think looks better and then propose the change to a wiki admin by sending a message about it in the #wiki channel on the Minehut Discord.

While the light theme needs the most help, you can also contribute to the dark theme if you think any changes could make it look better.

Uploading Images

Uploading images to the wiki allows you to display those images on any of the wiki pages. They are helpful when you want to visually show something to the reader. There are some steps and guidelines you need to follow when using the image upload feature.

When uploading images to use on the wiki, please make sure to give them a proper name describing what the image is rather than keeping them with the random name. Also only upload images that you are going to use on a wiki page.

When you need to update an image, do not delete the existing image or upload a new image but instead, go to the image page that you want to update and press "Upload a new version of this file". This will automatically change all pages using this image to use the new one.

If you have accidentally uploaded an image with an incorrect name, do not worry. The wiki allows you to easily rename images during cases like this. To do that, first head over to the image's page. Then hover over "More" near the top right and press "Move". Then select a reason for the move, usually "Misspelled title" or "Standardizing the title". Then unselect the "Leave a redirect behind" checkbox and finally press "Move page". Make sure to also fix the image references on any pages you used the old image name on.

Talk Pages

Talk pages are pages where contributors can discuss improvements and edits to an article on the wiki. The talk page associated with an article is named "Talk:Example", where "Example" is the name of the article.

The following is an example of how to reply to others when using a talk page.

::The reply to the second comment should be indented one more level. ~~~~
