Overview

Box servers have found their place on Minehut due to their relatively simple design and repetitive nature, as well as the low amount of resources required to run the server. Box servers are consistently one of the most popular servers on Minehut.

Main Concept

Box servers can be split into two categories, ones focused on PvP and others focused on mining.

PvP Focused

This gamemode is similar to Hypixel's Pit in the sense you are confined to a relatively small area and are forced to fight in order to gain resources and purchase better gear. Some similar/sub-genres include RandomKits, Skymining, and Factions.

Mining Focused

This very grindy gamemode is focused on mining. Some servers have PvE elements however, nearly all of them all use the same gameplay loop. To begin, you gather resources that can be used to improve your gear which allows you to gather new resources to further improve your gear. Some similar/sub-genres include Skymining, Prison, and Farming.

Many servers use mines that can include any block (usually ores) such as coal, iron, diamond, or even emeralds.

Template

The in-game server creation screen has a box template available. Selecting it creates a server in which players enter a large bedrock box with the following automatically-regenerated mines: oak wood logs, stone, coal ore, iron ore, gold ore, diamond ore, emerald ore, and ancient debris.

However, while it is possible to create a server using this template without linking a Minehut account, the new server does not have WorldGuard installed by default, thus making it virtually impossible to stop players from placing or destroying blocks that they shouldn't. This results in most of these preset box servers being cluttered with various junk all around.

The presence of the Shopkeepers plugin implies that players are not supposed to craft, but rather, trade with programmatically-added, immobile villagers (a "shopkeeper") set up by the server owner (although it is not uncommon for the server owner to simply not set these up). Typically, these shopkeepers have trades to allow a player to "trade in" an old tool for a better one, for a fee of some amount of whatever material is at that mine. It is common for inexperienced server owners to not make the tools unbreakable, resulting in them being impossible to trade in after they have lost any amount of durability.
